The equipment used in commuter rail service in Montreal is a mixture
of equipment from the fifties, sixties and present day. In 1995 the Deux Montagnes Commuter Line was upgraded and
new Bombardier built equipment replaced the aging electric equipment.
The equipment on the Lakeshore and
Blainville commuter lines is mostly older equipment with some newer
cars from the early 1990's. When the Bombardier cars were added in 1991
all of the existing equipment used on the Lakeshore line was converted to
be powered from a generator at the head end of the train rather than the
traditional batteries and wheel mounted generator.
